Storm Gorm rocks Denmark so hard like a hurricane

Storm Gorm rocks Denmark like a hurricane
Bridges across Denmark were closed on Sunday night after Storm Gorm made landfall with hurricane strength winds just after 7pm.

The Danish Meteorology Institute (DMI) said that winds were measured at 40 metres per second (144 kph) at the Blåvandshuk Lighthouse in western Jutland as Storm Gorm made landfall on Sunday evening. Speeds of 32.6 mps or 117 kph and above are officially considered hurricane-strength.
The storm has cancelled train traffic and several bridges.

The Little Belt bridge connecting Jutland and the island of Funen, the Great Belt Fixed Link (Storbæltsbroen) between Funan and Zealand and the Øresund Bridge connecting Copenhagen to southern Sweden were all closed to vehicle traffic as of 9pm on Sunday. Øresund trains were also cancelled while the Storbælt remained open to train traffic.

The Danish Emergency Management Agency (Beredskabsstyrelsen) expected that bridges would remain closed to vehicles until at least 1am.

DMI has issued warnings for the whole of Denmark, with the west coast of Jutland expected to bare the brunt of Gorm's force. The storm made landfall there and began making its way west across Jutland.
Police in Southern Jutland and the island of Funen have advised that residents remain indoors and several other police districts have recommended that residents avoid all unnecessary driving, warning of downed trees and flying tiles.

The storm was expected to hit the island of Zealand between 10pm and midnight. Gorm was also expected to hit southern Sweden hard.

On Saturday, 150 asylum seekers were moved from their tent camp in the northern Jutland town of Thisted in advance of the storm.

The storm was christened Gorm by DMI according to an international convention by which storms are named in alphabetical order, alternating between boys’ and girls’ names.
Freya, the last big storm to hit Scandinavia, came in early November.
